TO READ:

* Michael Moore, You Are Such An Idiot

* America In The Dock

* U.S. Unprepared For Another Attack

* And, as usual, Victor Davis Hanson hits it out of the ballpark. "North Korea as metaphor of the times"

A few excerpts: (but go read the whole thing)

Apparently a privileged class of men and women in the West, the beneficiaries of higher education and of ample means, share a tendency to believe that the world works according to their own Enlightenment logic — or at least that its reasoned judgment can appeal even to the uninitiated like Kim Il-Sung. And the ego of these new missionaries of wisdom is mighty.

Thus Mr. Carter once gushed that the Korean dictators, who had executed thousands of their own citizens, had suddenly on his arrival been transmogrified into "intelligent and well informed" statesmen and thus worthy partners in his own Cartesian dialectics. Since his 1994 visit, he has boasted that he never ordered a single military attack during his term, that he was the first American to go to Pyongyang in 43 years, that he wished to begin his Habitat for Humanity project in the North, and that the United States had no business building a missile-defense system since North Korea had no nuclear capability.

So let us beware of personable but smug men like Mr. Carter and Mr. Clinton, the prizewinners who assure us that either their ostentatious morality or their self-righteous glibness is equivalent to wisdom. It is not. I'd prefer a less nuanced and less conceited Truman or Reagan, who sensed something evil about the Sung dynasty that our present generation in its missionary pride has forgotten.

MALVO: They keep talking about the "undetermined relationship" between the two sniper suspects. Couldn't they have a sexual one? Some of the stuff I've read, if Malvo had been female, would lead me to believe that there was a sexual relationship between the two. Thoughts?

Just throwing it out there becuase it lets me sleep at night.

As I mentioned in my blog earlier today,(since blogger was down this morning) it was nice being ahead of the curve not once, but twice! I was doing my usual morning news reading after I posted this, and found out I wasn't the only one who'd wondered

CAN WE SAY, "RACIAL PROFILING"? From MSNBC:

Authorities appear to have missed a chance to apprehend Muhammad six days after the shooting spree began. In the predawn hours of Oct. 8, the day after a 13-year-old boy was wounded in Bowie, Md., Baltimore police approached the Chevrolet Caprice that was seized early Thursday and found Muhammad sleeping, according to Regina Alvarado, a spokeswoman for the Baltimore police. The car was parked in a lot near an on-ramp to Interstate 83.

Muhammad was not held, but his name and the vehicle were put into a police database, sources told the Washington Post.

“Everyone was looking for a white car with white people,” said a police source, according to the Post.

Can you imagine if the authorities had let a white guy go and had said they were looking for black people and the perp turned out to be white?? Jesse Jackson would be leading a protest march right now! I just love double standards...

Update: What Happened to The Angry White Male? (nice to be a ahead of the curve for once!)

TAKE THAT, NASTY OLD TERRY! Take a look at this for a laugh.

IT KEEPS HAPPENING: North Korea has nukes, terrorists are holding nearly a thousand people (including four Americans) hostage in Moscow, the guy they arrested today, who may be the sniper, is Muslim. It goes on and on. I think we've been very lucky the last few decades, but I think it was a fluke. I think that the normal way of the world is for it to be a generally bad place with small interludes of relative peace and stability.

I can't say that what's happening in the world, in our country, is really all that surprising; you only have to look at history to realize that this is the way it usually is. It just takes some adjusting. I will, we will, and we'll do what we have to to protect ourselves and our families. But right now, I feel sad.

NOTES: Many thanks to Rachel for helping me get my personal blog up and running on Moveable Type. I'm going to try and switch this one over myself at some point. (stop snickering!)

Amusing on the radio as I'm typing: Rush's latest parody song is Babs and AlGore singing, "You Don't Read My Faxes Anymore".

Ith at 11:27 AM

Okay, I'm sure we've had this discussion before. Keep your fucking religion to yourselves, assholes. Yes, that is aimed at MUSLIMS over here. I don't give a shit if you were bred, born and raised here. You have no right to shove your religious hokey down someone else's throat be it with a bullet or whatever.

I hope those two bastards fry.

FOR AUSTRALIA: My deepest sympathies for those you lost and my prayers for those that were maimed and injured.

GET A NEW AD! Sam Farr, our ever so left wing congressman (who voted against the Iraq resolution last week) needs a new song. Yet again, he's running the ad with Robert Redford extolling his virtues. As I asked last time, "Who cares?!?!!?! Does Redford live here? Do I care what he thinks or who he thinks I should vote for?" In case you didn't guess, the answer is a big fat, "NO!"

If it weren't for the nutburgers in Santa Cruz, we might actually have a chance to vote the guy out. As it stands though, he's probably going to be representing this district forever.

NO KIDDING: Canada Govt Study Shows Possible Huge Kyoto Costs.

That's because Kyoto has never been about the environment, but how to tear down the successful economies of the West. Kyoto is junk science plain and simple. Thank goodness our elected representatives didn't fall for it! They do get things right every once in awhile!

BOY, AM I SURPRISED!: AL MUKALLA, Yemen — A fiery explosion aboard a French oil tanker in the Arabian Sea resulted from an attack on the ship, U.S. and French officials concluded Thursday. The Americans said it was an act of terrorism most likely carried out by people with links to Al Qaeda.

NEO-RACIST GROUPS: Alive and flourishing on our campuses, are groups like this. When are we going to wake up and smell the coffee? When are we going to start condemning all racism? Can you imagine if this were a group of Jews or Whites? You can check out this group to see what some people are doing about it.

FROM KEL: She'd like to thank everyone for all the good thoughts that have been sent her way.

Ith at 5:15 PM

RANDOMNESS: A few things caught my attention today. So, in no particular order, here we go!

And they say we're a police state! When was the last time an author went on trial on our country for writing a book? France is special! They have TWO authors on trial!

Couldn't happen to a nicer person! CNN "Girl Reporter", Christiane Amanpour, has been banned from Iran and Iraq. Awwww, po ting! Too bad we can't ban her from here! But we'd have to live in France to do that.

Things that make you say, "DUH!" US mulls blacklisting Saudis on religion.

Colin Powell is a real man, and Harry Belafonte should be ashamed of himself! I may not agree with General Powell all the time, but I admire him a great deal and think he's a great role model for anyone.

Oh, no, Saddam isn't being a bad man over in Iraq! Saddam acquiring technology for 'long-range supergun'

And a last random thought... why do "celebrities" think I care? If I hear one more mewling word out of the likes of Barbara Streisand, Jessica Lange, Susan Sarandon, Alec Baldwin, or Harry Belafonte, I think I will blow a frelling gasket! ARGH!
